Artist Statement

Through paintings, I translate fleeting feelings and memories into visual experiences, with the intention of them resonating as familiar moments to viewers. Visual comforts like light filtering through the trees or warm scenes of personal reflection in my pieces act as a shared experience of being human while still staying true to my individual personal experiences and identity. Focusing on bringing memories and emotions to life has continually liberated me from various feelings that would otherwise feel trapped and unexpresssed. My work has become a visual journal of the ongoing narrative of my experiences with the physicality of large canvases. The weaving of content with a consistently rich and bright color palette holds a whimsicality and depth that is entirely my own.

I’ve found a way to have my brushstrokes create forms that feel both intentional and intuitive, which I feel mirrors the emotional weight of the experiences I’m revisiting. I want the way I move with the paint to preserve what I remember about a moment, but to also translate it into a language that others can feel without fully understanding it themselves. I’ve learned to not aim for realism, but sensation; to revisit how a moment felt rather than what it looked like, embracing layered complexity. Layering within my paintings has become an instinctual part of my process that helps me feel one with my work. It is through this that my art exists as not only a memory of my own, but an invitation for others to feel my pieces in their own ways.
